Orthopedic injuries are often complex and challenging to heal. Traditional treatment may focus on pain reduction or treating symptoms, but allograft therapy takes a natural, regenerative approach. Learn what it is and how it works here.

At Genesis Pain and Regenerative Medicine, renowned board-certified anesthesiologist Don Enty, MD, is known for his advanced, innovative approach to treating orthopedic injuries. At our state-of-the-art facility in Colleyville, Texas, Dr. Enty offers groundbreaking regenerative medicine treatments that support the body’s innate healing processes.

Allograft therapy helps trigger tissue repair after orthopedic injuries and can help ease pain, promote healing, and improve injury recovery.

What is allograft therapy?

Allograft therapy uses biologic materials from donated human tissue to support healing. Dr. Enty uses a proven regenerative approach that delivers natural signaling molecules directly to the injured part of the body.

These biological signals can essentially instruct your body to jump-start its own natural repair processes. Allograft therapy can be highly effective for ligaments, soft tissues, and joints — the tissues most often involved in orthopedic injuries.

How allograft therapy helps orthopedic injuries heal

Orthopedic injuries are particularly challenging to overcome because the tissues typically involved, including the ligaments, cartilage, and tendons, tend to heal slowly. Inflammation, tissue wear and tear, and joint stress can also disrupt the body’s natural healing processes.

Allograft therapy introduces biologically active substances that help guide and amplify the body’s natural tissue repair processes.

A study published in the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation reported that amnion allograft injections significantly reduced pain and improved function and quality of life in patients with a range of musculoskeletal conditions.

Allograft therapy can work in a variety of ways to achieve these benefits:

  • Promoting new tissue growth to replace damaged tissue
  • Triggering new collagen growth, strengthening connective tissue
  • Helping reduce scar tissue formation during healing
  • Accelerating the body’s healing response
  • Reducing inflammation

At Genesis Pain and Regenerative Medicine, Dr. Enty uses Celera™ human tissue allograft products. Celera products come from donated placentas and amniotic fluid following healthy, full-term births.

These tissues would otherwise be discarded, but research shows they’re rich in biologically active substances, including growth factors, cytokines, and exosomes. These substances can help guide cells to repair damaged tissues at a far higher level.

Celera products are extensively screened and sterilized to ensure safety.

In certain cases, Dr. Enty may recommend combining allograft therapy with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Because the body’s regenerative response can slow with age, pairing these treatments may help further support tissue repair and healing.

Orthopedic conditions that may benefit from allograft therapy

Allograft therapy may help with a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, especially those involving joints or connective tissues.

  • Recurrent sprains, such as ankle injuries
  • Ligament tears, including ACL, MCL, or LCL tears
  • Cartilage injuries like meniscus tears
  • Osteoarthritis and joint degeneration
  • Tendinitis and tendon injuries
  • Joint instability
  • Nonhealing (nonunion) fractures

Because every orthopedic injury is different, a consultation with Dr. Enty can help determine whether allograft therapy is the best approach for you.
